About the job
The role will be to guarantee Utility availability for the manufacturing facility. Drive productivity/cost saving through continuous improvements, contractor management, and utility projects. Manage all maintenance activities and the maintenance team, while insurer that the department is operated safely and all statutory and company safety policies are followed.
Ultimately the Utility manager will also be responsible for the manufacturing facilities’ environmental targets, water, energy, and CO2.
Responsible for all safety compliance concerning Utilities
GMR2.1 Appointee; Ensure and Maintain a workplace that’s without health and safety risks by ensuring compliance with the provisions of the OHS Act.
Foster a climate and culture where safety, health, and environment are addressed effectively and speedily
Ensure that all government and statutory requirements are complied with and that the health and safety standards of the factory are following company policies.
Reduce factory baseload and optimize the ability to react to changing demand in Utilities
Actively participate in factory improvement projects and makes proposals to optimize technological processes.
Implement processes and strategies to reduce water, electrical, and steam conversion ratios.
Participates in developing maintenance plans and annual reviews of the maintenance packages.
Responsible for maintenance of all Utility equipment, managing own team of artisans and contractors
Develops and updates technical equipment procedures.
Maintain contact with suppliers of technical equipment
Maintain all machinery to ensure optimal working standards
Identify root causes of departmental problems (downtime, increased utility consumption, safety and quality incidents, etc.), propose and implement appropriate actions.
Performs or is involved with various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, test, installation, service, etc.
Create and implement maintenance procedures
Conduct regular inspections of facilities to detect and resolve problems
Propose and lead new projects that will benefit the factory in safety/cost/environment and quality
Direct, manage and coach staff and ensure that the technical function is staffed with appropriately qualified and experienced personnel
Involved in FAT/PAT/SAT (Factory, Performance, Site Acceptance Testing) for projects and ensures implementation of new equipment.
Identify and lead reduction of non-value-adding activities, for example, Utilities online management system
Identify and implement training and development interventions
Establish and maintain appropriate KPIs by monitoring actual conditions vs. target, as well as determine and measure the impact of implemented improvements and reporting this to the business
Act as the point of contact for non-day-to-day issues and activities with other production support departments such as R&I, Processing, Quality, Safety, Raw Materials & Finished Goods Warehouses
Ensure adherence to food safety and quality principles as included in the policies, procedures, product specifications, and processes. This also includes general Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene practices.
Identify and report any potential Food Safety & Quality and GMP deviations and hazards.
About you
Qualifications
Minimum of a National Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Preference will be given to the Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) qualification
Experience and Skills
5 years of similar experience within FMCG/ Manufacturing industries
Manufacturing Excellence or Optimisation experience essential
Project Management and asset care
Utility equipment maintenance experience
Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and understanding of different cultures/work environments
Exceptional organization and planning skills.
Outstanding communication skills
Building services and maintenance experience
GMR 2.7 appointment
